Former President and leader of opposition Progressive Party of Maldives on Monday vows to reclaim the lagoon of Ha. Dhidhdhoo and develop an airport on the island.

He made this remark at a gathering held in Dhidhdhoo, during his ongoing visit to Haa Alif Atoll. In his speech, he stated that if he were to win the next election, his term would be complete with an airport in Dhidhdhoo.

Speaking further, he noted that the company profiting earlier, is now operating on a loss, and the number of flights has also reduced.

Hence, unlike before, when Island Aviation was the number one internal airline, other private airlines have taken over.

“At the end of 2018, profits from Island Aviation were profiting the government. It seems that Island Aviation’s net profit was 1.5 million at the time. What is the situation today, I think MVR 600 million in the loss.”

Currently, the people of Dhidhdhoo are using Hdh. Hanimaadhoo International Airport. It takes about 15 minutes to travel from Dhidhdhoo to Hanimaadhoo.

The Solih administration has developed an airport in Hoarafushi of the same atoll.

Moreover, recently, a contract was signed with an Indian company to develop Hanimadhoo Airport.
