Nationwide white alert issued for heavy rain

National weather forecasting body of Maldives, Maldives Metrological Service (Met Office) has issued a nationwide white alert warning of heavy rain on Friday evening.

The white alert is in effect from 18:00pm on Friday evening, till 23:00pm on Friday night.

During these hours, Met Office forecasts heavy rain, strong winds of 22 – 27 miles per hour, with gusts of 45 miles per hour alongside rough seas.

On Wednesday night, an official from Met Office told Sun that in light of the strong southwest monsoon over the Maldives area – strong winds, rough seas and heavy rain are expected across northern and central atolls in the next four days.

Therewith, seafarers have been warned to exercise extreme caution.

Maldivian islands have been experiencing wave surges in light of the stormy weather, causing major losses to many.
