A nine-year-old has passed away whilst being treated for dengue on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as a girl from L. Fonadhoo.
She was first treated at L. Gan Regional Hospital, upon being diagnosed with dengue, and later transferred to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in capital Male’ City for further treatment due to the severity of her condition.
She passed away on early Tuesday night, whilst being treated at IGMH.
The girl’s father told Sun on tonight that her condition deteriorated due to failure to provide adequate care during her time at Gan Regional Hospital.
He also cited major delays in transferring her to Male’ City.
“Was informed there were delays in providing medical care. Moreover, it took longer than necessary to transport her to Male’, which further delayed care,” he had said.
Gan Regional Hospital has yet to make a statement regarding the matter.
Earlier today, a 21-year-old youth passed away whilst being treated at R. Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital for dengue.
Last Tuesday, a 19-year-old youth who was being treated at ADK Hospital for dengue also succumbed to the disease. A day before that, an 8-year-old girl passed away whilst being treated for dengue.
Statistics by Health Protection Agency (HPA) show an increase in dengue cases this year.
