Maldives records third dengue-related death this month, a 21-year-old man

A youth passed away on Tuesday whilst being treated at R. Ungoofaaru for dengue.

The patient who passed away whilst being treated at Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital has been identified as Ahmed Athoof, 21, R. Dhuvaafaru.

Sun has learned that Athoof first sought treatment at Dhuvaafaru Hospital, for a fever, on last Saturday.

He was discharged on that day following consultation. However, his fever spiked the next day, leading him to return to the hospital. Tests conducted on the day confirmed that he was positive for dengue. He was prescribed medication and sent home.

Nevertheless, Athoof’s condition did not improve and he returned to the hospital once again on Monday. Due to the severity of his condition, he was transferred to Ungoofaaru for further treatment.

He passed away whilst being treated at Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital on Tuesday.

Athoof who worked at Dhuvaafaru Council is survived by a less than a one-month-old child.

Last Tuesday, a 19-year-old youth who was being treated at ADK Hospital for dengue also succumbed to the disease. A day before that, an 8-year-old girl passed away whilst being treated for dengue.

Statistics by Health Protection Agency (HPA) show an increase in dengue cases this year.
