Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has enabled the purchase of physical tickets for minibus services provided in Male’ City under Raajje Transport Link (RTL).

The company began charging passengers for minibus on Monday, with the fare set at MVR 7.

MTCC has enabled the purchase of physical tickets for passengers from buses. However, they have instructed passengers purchasing physical tickets to bring the exact amount of money, as it would be time consuming to provide passengers with change.

Easier arrangements have also been made for purchase of tickets by MTCC. Passengers can purchase QR tickets from RTL’s website or mobile app – RTL Travel.

RTL Travel can be downloaded on both Apple Store and Google Play Store, for free. The QR tickets must be scanned at the relevant machine installed on the bus, to validate the ticket.

Tickets can also be purchased in bundles through the application. Details of ticket bundles;

  • Return ticket, for two trips, at MVR 14, valid for 7 days
  • Multi journey 10, for 10 trips, at MVR 70, valid for 15 days
  • Multi journey 30, for 30 trips, at MVR 210, valid for 15 days
  • Multi journey 60, for 60 trips, at MVR 420, valid for 30 days

MTCC states bundle tickets would save the time spent on purchasing tickets separately for each trip. Physical tickets would be sold at minibuses. The company has installed a special box inside the buses to deposit the payment.

Despite fare being charged for minibus service at present, the service will continue to be free for school students in uniform, people above the age of 65 years, children under the age of three years, and people with disabilities.

MTCC states it will make arrangements for tickets to be purchased with Visa and Mastercard before the end of October, for which they are in discussions with the Bank of Maldives (BML). With the introduction of this service, customers will be able to swipe their bank cards to purchase tickets easily.

The company also noted that RTL branded card will be introduced late this year, which will ease the purchase of tickets for passengers without Visa or Mastercards. Arrangements will be made for RTL cards to be topped up online, from anywhere at any time.

As the biggest transport service provider in the Maldives, MTCC states its aim is to provide its services to the public at a reasonable price, in the easiest of manners.
