Vessel traveling to Ga. Atoll stopped for overloading

A vessel travelling to Ga. Atoll from Male’ has been stopped for illegally overloading with goods.

Maldives Police Service shared images of the ‘South Line’ boat which was asked to turn around.

In the images, it can be seen that the vessel was barely afloat with the number of goods loaded.

Police stated that the vessel had been instructed to turn around, and also notified that it can only depart once the amount of cargo loaded is legal.

Additionally, Police advised travellers to be cautious of the weather and to ensure all the safety guidelines are met with the ongoing bad weather.

Maldives on Sunday predicted bad weather for the whole country in the next two days.

“Heavy rain and thunderstorms, strong winds of 19-24 mph with gusts of 45 mph, and rough seas are expected.”

Additionally, Met has issued a white alert until 14:00 hrs for the entire country.
