Dhiggaru council requests to upgrade health center to hospital

The council of M. Dhiggaru on Saturday requested President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to upgrade the island’s health centre to a hospital.

The request was made during a meeting held by with President with the island council and the Women’s Development Committee (WDC) members of Dhiggaru.

During the meeting, extensive discussions were held on ways to address the issues and concerns facing the community.

Council members stated that they deeply valued the President’s approach of allowing them to consult with him about the administration’s developmental plans for the island, and also extended their gratitude for the opportunity to provide input for these projects.

Moreover, council members took the opportunity to discuss with the President the most pressing community needs, such as the need for a housing project; improving banking and healthcare services; addressing space constraints at the school and introducing higher secondary education; resolving issues facing the sewerage network, and increasing water production capacity.

Additionally, they requested the President to seek ways to expedite the land reclamation project.

This visit marks the third time President Solih has visited Dhiggaru.

While speaking with the public officials, President spoke about his decision to consult with and gather input from communities and stated that these discussions allow the administration to identify what is most important for each island.

The President arrived in Dhiggaru on Saturday afternoon, where he attended a ceremony to inaugurate a volleyball court developed on the island. He also joined a friendly volleyball game between two veterans’ teams held as part of the ceremony.

The visit is part of President Solih’s five-island tour of Meemu Atoll. Earlier in the day, he visited the islands of Raiymandhoo and Maduvvari. He is set to travel to Veyvah and Muli Island on Sunday before concluding the tour.
