Dhiggaru Council by-election to be held on August 13

Elections Commission has announced the by-election to fill the vacancy on the M. Dhiggaru Council will be held on August 13.

The council seat fell vacant following the resignation of Ibrahim Khaleel.

The applications for the vacancy closed last week.

Elections Commission has announced the names of the candidates as required under Article 16 of Local Council Elections; Abdulla Arif from Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and Abdul Hannan Ahmed from Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).

The council currently has three MDP members and one PPM member. Ibrahim Khaleel, who resigned, was an independent candidate.

Elections Commission was allotted MVR 1.5 million to hold by-elections this year. The commission previously stated MVR 1.4 million had already been spent on holding Women’s Development Committee by-elections.
