CP: Staff shortage biggest challenge facing Maldives Correctional Service

Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Mohamed Fulhu states shortage of human resources is the biggest challenge facing Maldives Correctional Service.

He made the remark at the inauguration of the instructor training program at the Maafushi Prison on Wednesday.

Conducted by Institute for Correctional Studies, the 15-day program is aimed at developing the skills of officers in charge of training new recruits.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ahmed said the officers in charge of training new recruits were charged with a great responsibility, and stressed the importance of the existence of an experience, trained and capable team to face challenges.

“Building a good, professional workforce can help overcome many challenges,” he said.

Ahmed said the officers selected for the training program were handpicked for their capabilities.

The modules taught under the program include managing officers’ performance, lesson plan, physical training, swimming, risk management, classroom management, foot drill, objective writing, first aid and teaching practice.
