Police arrest youth for attacking officers during beat up of accused child molester

Whilst no arrest has been made over K. Dhiffushi citizen’s brutal beating of a man who allegedly sexually abusing a minor – Maldives Police Service has made an arrest for allegedly attacking officers amidst the violence which ensued.

The accused who was brutally beaten at Dhiffushi has been identified at 35-year-old Mohamed Shiham.

Police detailed that while trying to control the people that were attacking the accused – some officers had sustained various injuries.

The incident took place on last Thursday night.

In a statement released today, Police said that a 22-year-old has been arrested on suspicions of attacking police officers during the incident. They noted that Criminal Court had granted a 10-day remand period for the suspect.

Police stressed that they were investigating the alleged sexual abuse, attack on the accused and attack on law enforcement officers. However, an arrest has yet to be made over the violent attack on accused.
