STELCO completes work, Kuragiri lit up for the first time

K. Kudagiri - the picnic island dedicated to residents in Male’ region has been ‘lit up’ for the first time after State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) completed the electricity network for the island.

Speaking with Sun, the media official for STELCO detailed that the company was tasked with laying the distribution network and installing streetlights on the island.

“For the network, we laid 3000 meters of cables. All the distribution boxes have been installed, and all the connections have been completed as well. We lit the island for testing while the development work is still ongoing. Building the powerhouse and other tasks are undertaken by Fenaka.”

Meanwhile, the Director of Fenaka Zahir Usman said that if no further issues, by the 20th all the work related to the powerhouse will be completed.

The land reclamation for the project was undertaken by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), while the rest of the facilities are being developed jointly by five SOEs under Corporate Social Responsibility.

In this regard, the mosque at Kudagiri was built by Fenaka Corporation Limited whilst the electricity network on the island was laid out by STELCO.

Preparations are underway to inaugurate the island by July 26. A total of MVR 41 million is being spent on this project.
