Interpol issues red notice on former Majeediyaa School teacher over a sexual abuse case

International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) has issued a red notice on former Majeediyya School teacher – who is a suspect in a sexual abuse case.

The red notice has been issued against a 55-year-old Indian national, Omanakuttan Mailadiyil Karunakarakurup.  

As per the red notice, the secondary mathematics teacher is being sought over a case of sexually abusing his 14-year-old student since 2020 on multiple occasions.

The red notice said that Omanakuttan fled Maldives whilst local police were investigating the case.

No further details regarding the case have been disclosed.

Maldives Police Service has yet to issue an official statement regarding the case.

Omanakuttan was a teacher at Majeediyya School until recently.
