State Electric Company (STELCO) states that electrical work on the staff housing developed in Hulhumale’ Phase II will be done at the company’s own expense.

STELCO said the company’s board of directors made the decision during a meeting on Saturday evening.

STELCO’s spokesperson Ahmed Mohamed said on Sunday that the company’s staff were already paying rent for the flats in the two towers of STELCO Hiyaa. He said that the company contracted by Housing Development Corporation to design the electric network in the flats was expected to complete the project in September.

He said STELCO found it too late.

“Though the work on the flats is nearly complete, the electrical work is getting too delayed. This is a huge burden on the staff who are paying rent. This is why the board made the decision,” he said.

HDC contracted a Chinese company to design the electric networks of company flats. Because of the delay in the project, STELCO’s Managing Director Ahmed Shareef said he will ensure staff are able to move in to flats in July, even if it requires a temporary solution.

HDC has stated that though design work on the electrical networks will be complete in September, companies that wish to speedup the work may get the work done at own expense.
