The President has appointed Abbas Adil Riza, who previously served as the Spokesperson at the President’s Office, as the Minister of State for Finance and Treasury.
With this change, the duties of Spokesperson have been assigned to Ahmed Thaufeeg, Advisor of Political Affairs at the President’s Office.
The President’s Office has not indicated a reason for this change.
Abbas’s criticisms aimed at the Indian High Commissioner in Maldives at a protest against Indian company GMR caused quite a stir some weeks ago, prompting the government to disassociate itself from Abbas’s remarks.
Meanwhile, Managing Director of Thilafushi Corporation Limited (TCL) Mohamed Latheef who was dismissed from his post, was recently appointed as the Deputy Minister of Finance.
