The government has informed diplomats of its decision to take action on the issue related to the airport.
A senior official of the President’s Office said that this information was shared with diplomats during a teleconference held by Government Spokesperson Abbas Adil Riza and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dhunya Maumoon last Tuesday.
“They were informed that the contract results in serious losses to the state, and that the government has decided to take action on this issue,” the official said.
When asked about the meeting, Abbas Adil Riza confirmed that the teleconference took place and that discussions were held with diplomats of various countries on various diplomatic issues.
He mentioned that the issue of GMR contract was also discussed, but did not give any details.
Rumours have been going around on social networks since last week that the government plans to cancel its contract with GMR on 30 November.
No information has been disclosed by the government on this issue. However, the political parties leading the protest against GMR said after a meeting with the President that the President had assured that the government’s decision on the GMR issue will be “as per people’s wishes”.
