Chinese Ambassador to Maldives pays courtesy call on First Lady

The Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Her Excellency Wang Lixin, on Monday, has paid a courtesy call to First Lady Fazna Ahmed.

At the meeting which took place at the President’s Official Residence, Mulee’aage, this morning – First Lady Fazna and Ambassador Wang conversed about the long-standing friendship and cooperation Maldives and China.  

Ambassador Wang also briefed the First Lady on numerous festivities planned to mark the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral relations between the Maldives and China, being marked this year.

The First Lady and the Ambassador also spoke regarding the disruptions caused to everyday life across the globe subsequent to the COVID-19 pandemic. On this note, Ambassador Wang highlighted some difficulties that Chinese visitors faced when traveling overseas. She also underscored the difficulties posed to the education sector due to the pandemic.

Ambassador Wang commended the administration for its free first degree program – following which First Lady Fazna expressed her satisfaction with the program stating that it had helped alleviate financial burdens faced by a large number of women in pursuing higher education.

Concluding their meeting, both the First Lady and Ambassador wished each other well and expressed hopes of meeting again.
