A delegation of Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) has arrived in the Maldives, to study the case submitted to IPU accusing security forces of having injured some Members of Parliament (MPs) of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
Government Spokesperson Abbas Adil Riza said that the delegation arrived last night, and that the purpose of their visit is to study the progress in relation to the allegations made by MPs of MDP, that some of them were injured by security forces on 8 February 2012.
“The government has informed IPU that the independent institutions are investigating the activities of 6, 7 and 8 February, and that cases against two Police Officers have been filed to Court,” Abbas said.
He said that the delegation will meet with the government tomorrow.
The delegation will also hold meetings with political parties, MPs, officials of the judicial sector and independent institutions.
The IPU General Assembly earlier passed to send a delegation to the Maldives in relation to the case filed by MDP.
Sun Online understands that the delegation met with Parliamentary Groups of some political parties today.
