Shakeela appointed as Acting Gender Minister

President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has appointed Minister of Environment and Energy, Dr Mariyam Shakeela as the Acting Minister of Gender, Family and Human rights.

Former Minister of Gender, Family and Human rights Fathimath Dhiyana Saeed was dismissed last Monday. The President’s Office said that she was dismissed for acting in a manner not suited for a Minister.

Dhiyana was dismissed after she strongly criticised the President and the government subsequent to the arrest of her husband, Kaashidhoo MP Abdullah Jabir, under suspicion of using alcohol.
