Maldives has condemned the recent terrorist attacks on oil facilities and civilian areas in Saudi Arabia.

The condemnation comes after Yemen’s Houthi rebels attacked an oil depot in the Saudi city of Jiddah over the weekend - the rebels’ highest-profile assault yet.

The target of the attack, the North Jiddah Bulk Plant sits just southeast of the city’s international airport and is a crucial hub for Muslim pilgrims heading to Mecca. No injuries were reported in the attack.

Maldivian Foreign Ministry, in a statement on Monday, said the Maldivian government strongly condemned the attack.

“Continuation of such acts of terrorism towards the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, negatively impact the efforts by the concerned parties and the international community to find peaceful solutions to conflicts in the region,” said the Maldivian Foreign Ministry.

Maldivian government reaffirmed its solidarity with the Saudi government, and reiterates its commitment to the fight against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.

As retaliation for the attack, the Saudi-led coalition fighting Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen unleashed a barrage of airstrikes on Sanaa and Hodeida. At least eight people were killed in the attacks.
