The newly appointed Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Maldives, Yahya Hassan Alhqahtani, has presented his letter of credence to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Sunday.
The Ambassador presented the letter of credence to President Muizzu during a ceremony held at the President’s Office on Sunday morning.
The Ambassador was escorted to the President’s Office from Republic Square in a cultural procession, “Haiykolhu,” accompanied by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Drum and Trumpet Band.
After presentation of the letter of credence, the President and the Ambassador engaged in areas of mutual interest. In this regard, President Muizzu expressed appreciation for Saudi Arabia’s continued support to the Maldives, particularly the brotherly relations upheld by Saudi King and Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
The President also reaffirmed his support for Saudi Arabia.
He extended gratitude to Saudi Arabia for the inclusion of the Maldives in the Makkah Route Initiative, commending the services provided under the program and the ongoing improvements for pilgrims.
The Ambassador thanked the President for the warm welcome. Both the President and the Ambassador reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening and sustaining the enduring relationship between the two nations.
Maldives and Saudi Arabia established diplomatic relations on March 17, 1981.
