Addu City Mayor’s car vandalized with ‘India Out’ graffiti

Addu City Mayor Ali Nizar's car was vandalized with 'India Out' graffiti on March 25, 2022.

Addu City Mayor Ali Nizar’s car has been vandalized with ‘India Out’ graffiti.

Nizar told Sun on Saturday morning that his car was vandalized while it was parked outside his home on Friday night.

He said he doesn’t know who the culprit could be.

“I believe this was done by people who fell for the hate being propagated by these politicians. They can only do something simple like this, right?” he said.

Nizar said that authorities need to find the people committing ‘such uncivilized’ acts in the local community and take action against them.

The incident comes ahead of the opening of the India-funded College of Security and Law Enforcement in Addu. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid, and Indian Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar are scheduled to visit Addu to attend the event.

The ‘India Out’ tag is used by the opposition in its campaign to protest against Indian military presence in Maldives.
