Funds to be issued to four political parties; MVR 15 million to MDP

Elections Commission has announced the government's decision to issue funds for four political parties.

The Commission’s President Fuad Thaufeeq told Sun that the four political parties receiving funds this year are Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), Jumhoory Party (JP) and Adhaalath Party (AP).

“The funds have not been issued to parties yet. But we have decided to issue funds for four parties,” he had said.

Based on the number of members in the party, the party receiving the highest number of funds is the main ruling party, MDP. MDP comprises of a total 54,660 individuals. They are set to receive MVR 15.02 million in funds.

The party receiving the second highest number of funds based on the number of members is PPM. With a total of 34,237 members, they are set to receive MVR 9.4 million.

The party receiving the third highest number of funds based on the number of members is JP. With a total of 20,107 members, they are set to receive MVR 5.5 million.

AP, with 10,554 members is set to receive MVR 2.9 million.

Election Commission said that the issuance of the funds will proceed after the parties file their financial statements and audit reports.
