Parliament approves transfer of two ambassadors

The newly appointed Ambassador to the European Union and Belgium - Omar Abdul Razzak (R) and the new Ambassador appointed to Japan - Hassan Sobir (L).

The Parliament on Monday approved the transfer of two ambassadors.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih sent for the Parliament to approve the transfer of two ambassadors in February.

The new appointments are as follows:

·         Ambassador to Belgium and Head of Mission to the European Union - Omar Abdul Razzak

·         Ambassador to Japan - Hassan Sobir 

Ambassador Omar was previously appointed as the Ambassador to Sri Lanka.

He completed Masters of Business Administration (International) from the Edith Cowen University of Australia. His previous work experience includes State Minister for Home Affairs, Project Monitoring at the Ministry of Finance and Treasury and as the Shadow Foreign Secretary of Maldives United Opposition.

Moreover, the ambassador is currently a member of the Joint Opposition Foreign Relations Committee as well.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Sobir was previously filling the role of Ambassador to Belgium as well as Head of Mission from Maldives to EU.

He attained his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of South Australia, Diploma in Economic Statistics from the USA and Bachelor of Commerce from India.

Previous work experience includes Permanent Representative of Maldives to UN Office in Geneva, Non-Resident Ambassador of Maldives to EU, High Commissioner of Maldives to the United Kingdom and High Commissioner to the Republic of Singapore.
