President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has said that great progress has been made in the investigation of the murder of former Ungoofaaru MP Dr Afrasheem Ali, and that the details will be revealed soon.
The President said this while addressing the people of Ungoofaaru, Afrasheem's native island, last night.
“The investigations are going well. Maldives Police will reveal the details to the public within a few days,” he said.
At a recent press conference, the Police said that Dr Afrasheem's murder was premeditated and carried out very differently from other murders in the country.
In addition to the 80 Maldives Police Officers involved in this investigation, assistance has also been sought of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Singapore Police.
Dr Afrasheem was found murdered on 1 October, outside his apartment located in H. Funvilu.
Police have offered MVR500,000 for anyone who can provide substantive information for this investigation that can lead to a prosecution. They have also assured that anyone who provides information will be protected.
The latest Police press conference in relation to this murder was held three weeks ago.
