The Mayor of Male’ City Dr Mohamed Muizzu revealed that the council has sent a letter to the government requesting to dismiss fines for Sinamale’ Flats.

The letter addresses fines for the Sinamale Flats 1,2,3, Male’ Hiya Flats 1,2 and the Sinamale Flat 4 in Vilimale.

During the flat ownership agreement signing ceremony held at Vilimale, Dr Muizzu said that the request has been officially sent to the government, and now are waiting for a decision by the President’s Office on the matter.

He went on to note that the fines can be dismissed after the President looks into the matter and makes a decision.

Additionally, Dr Muizzu assured that if the fines cannot be dismissed then he would work to make arrangements to distribute the money into instalments.

He further noted that the agreement states that if the fine amount is dismissed either fully or a part of it, the money paid so far by residents would be deducted from the total price of the flat.

“For instance, say the fine amounts of MVR 30,000. If from that, MVR 20,000 has been paid, and the remaining MVR 10,000 were to be dismissed, the MVR 20,000 paid would be deducted from the price of the flat.”

Dr Muizzu also revealed that the Male’ City Council plans to open offices in Sinamale Flat 4 and in Male’ Hiyaa Flat 1,2 by Ramadan this year.

Moreover, plans to install CCTV cameras will be included in the revenue budget, and would finish the project sometime this year, said the mayor.
