President requests JP to send different name

President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has rejected Jumhooree Party's (JP) proposition to appoint Dr Ahmed Shamheed as Minister of Transport, and requested the party to sent the name of a different person.

Dr Shamheed was dismissed last week from his post as Transport Minister. Following this, the government announced that the slot of Transport Minister will be reserved for a member of JP.

Now, JP has requested the President to reappoint Dr Shamheed to the post of Transport Minister before Sunday.

JP said that Dr Shamheed was dismissed following his decision to extend the lease period of Maamigili Airport to the party's leader Gasim Ibrahim, for 99 years.

The party has said that it would be difficult to cooperate with the government unless Dr Shamheed is reappointed.
