The flight departed from Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA) at 8:00am with 127 passengers.

The same aircraft will also travel to Chennai and Dhaka today.

Indian High Commissioner D. M. Mulay was the guest of honour at a ceremony held this morning at INIA to inaugurate the new flight.

Activities held by the departure gate early morning included the cutting of a cake by Mulay and Chairman of Island Aviation Ibrahim Saleem.

The passengers were welcomed by senior officials of Island Aviation.

Managing Director of the airline's operator Island Aviation, Abdul Haaris told Sun Online that the tickets for today's flights are sold out.

“The support is going very well. We have great support for all the new destinations,” he said.

Haaris said that Chennai is a great destination with several possibilities for Maldivian businessmen, while Chennai and Mumbai are great destinations for tourists.

He said that new aircraft will be added to the airline's fleet based on demand.
