President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has inaugurated the new services of the national airline Maldivian, to Mumbai, Chennai, Trivandrum and Dhaka.
Maldivian will commence operations to the new destinations tomorrow.
At the ceremony, the President said that this is a good start for the company, and expressed hope that it will acquire more aircraft and continue to develop in the future.
He praised Maldivian for its achievements over a short period of time.
A video presentation of Maldivian's developments was played at the ceremony, which was also attended by Ministers and some Members of Parliament.
Maldivian has added an Airbus 320 aircraft to its fleet prior to the commencement of operations to the new destinations.
The aircraft, with 14 business class seats and 138 economy seats, is the largest aircraft to have been acquired by Island Aviation so far.
