A group of taxi drivers have started protesting in Male’ this morning, against the new regulations implemented by the Transport Authority.
Work at most taxi centres has come to a complete halt as taxi drivers continue to protest at Raalhugan’du are since 9:00am.
The protest which started Raalhugan’du area, where a large number of taxis are also parked, has now moved on to Velaanaage area.
The concern raised by the protesters is Transport Authority’s decision to put stickers on illegally parked vehicles without facilitating ways, or space, to avoid parking vehicles illegally.
Senior officials of Transport Authority are negotiating with the protesting taxi drivers.
A reporter of Sun has reported from the protest area that some agreements have been reached between the protesters and Transport Authority. Details are not yet known.
Before the protest commenced, Transport Authority had decided to postpone commencement of putting stickers on illegally parked vehicles to 1 December.
