Three individuals receive Award of Honour, nineteen receive Award of Recognition

The National Award of Honour and the National Award of Recognition have been presented by President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik last night at a ceremony held on the occasion of Republic Day.

The National Award of Honour was presented to three individuals, namely Sheikh Usmaan Abdulla Umree for his contribution in the area of religious awareness and religious education, Adam Ali for his contribution in the area of traditional medicine, and Abdulla Mohamed for his contribution in the area of construction and architecture.

Recipients of the National Award of Honour were presented a shield of honour, a badge of honour and a commemorative plaque at the ceremony held at Dharubaaruge last night.

Among the nineteen people who received the National Award of Recognition are Adam Zahir in the area of Dhivehi literature; Adam Naseer Ibrahim in the area of Dhivehi poetry; Dr Aishath Ali Naaz in the area of Medicine (Psychology); Mohamed Yoosuf in the area of Boat Building (Carpentry and Design); Ibrahim Zubair in the area of Arts and Crafts (Lacquer Work); Masood Ali in the area of Information and News Dissemination (Presentation); Ismail Naseer in the area of Information and News Dissemination (Journalism); and Hassan Maniku in the area of Performing Arts (Acting in Feature Film and Drama).

Medals were presented to thirteen recipients for achieving the highest academic qualification in the Maldives National Qualifications Framework.

They include Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed for Doctorate of Philosophy in Criminal Justice System from the University of London in 2008; Supreme Court Judge Dr Ahmed Abdulla Didi for Doctorate in Political Sharia from Al Azhar University, Misr, in 2008; Dr Aishath Ali Naaz for Doctorate of Philosolgy in Clinical Psychology in 2010; and Education Minister Dr Asim Ahmed for Doctorate of Philosophy in Social Policy from Victoria University of Wellington in 2011.

Awards were presented to twelve individuals for achieving the highest ranking position in a higher academic course or training course. They include Assistant Public Prosecutor at Prosecutor General’s Office Mariyam Thoaifa, Ali Shiyam, Ghanim Hussain, Ibrahim Anwar, and Ahmed Ali.
