Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has commenced physical work on the project to develop a harbor in HA. Muraidhoo – an island which has seen multiple fatalities in marine incidents.
The work was inaugurated by Baarah MP Ahmed Abdulla in a ceremony on Sunday.
MTCC’s Managing Director Adam Azim said the new harbor will offer a solution to many of the issues facing Muraidhoo.
Under the project, MTCC will dredge the harbor and the harbor channel, and construct a 212-meter quay wall, a 470-meter breakwater, repair a 170-meter breakwater, and construct a 105-meter revetment.
The project is valued at MVR 33.72 million.
MTCC expects to complete the project before the end of this year.
Muraidhoo is an island of some 700 people.
