Ministry of Economic Development on Sunday announced the commencement of the tender process for the Hanimaadhoo International Airport Development Project.
As per the statement released by the ministry, deadline for tender submission was on January 25, 2022.
Under this project financed by the Indian Exim Bank’s Line of Credit, a 2.46-kilometre new runway and a terminal with an annual capacity of 1.3 million passengers will be developed.
Additionally, Economic Ministry revealed that by the end of the project, the airport will be fully equipped with the latest facilities to provide international services. Hence, the airport will be able to service flights in the range of Airbus 320 and Boeing 737.
Furthermore, the ministry stated that Hanimaadhoo Airport will have the capability in the future for direct flights from the Middle East, South Asia, South East Asia and Africa.
This project is part of this administration’s strategies to develop an economic hub in the northern part of the country, aiding the expansion of resorts and guesthouses in the area. The Ministry stressed that the project was of utmost importance to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
