Maldives Transport and Contracting Company’s (MTCC) Managing Director Adam Azim has stated that the Company will be able to commence direct bus services from Male’ City to Hulhumale’ Phase II in next year’s September or October.

At present, bus users would first have to take a bus to Hulhumale’ Phase I and then exchange to a bus that travels to Hulhumale’ Phase II.

Azim said that direct bus service to Phase II is currently not possible due to the constraints in their bust fleet.

“When the buses were transferred to MTCC – it was only 50 percent of the buses,” he had said.

He further detailed that MTCC is currently undertaking the work to bring the buses required to expand its bus services across the country, to the Maldives.

Therefore, he said that direct buses to Hulhumale’ Phase II will commence as soon as these buses are received.

Speaking further, Azim said that the company is working to commence bus services at residential islands apart from Male’ City.

On this note, he added that the buses required to commence bus service at Addu City, Fuvahmulah City and Laamu Atoll will be brought – following which the service will commence in next year’s September or October.

Whilst a large population presently resides at Hulhumale’ Phase II – the lack of direct buses from Male’ City is of great concern to them.
