MVR 38.4 million earned from Atoll Shops given to councils

The government deposited MVR 38.4 million earned from the Atoll Shops located in Male’ City, to atoll councils.

As an aid to develop local councils, the government on February 26, 2013, made the decision to grant 50 percent of the rent earned from each atoll’s shop to the respective council.

According to the Ministry of Finance, for the years 2016 and 2017, the funds dedicated for councils have been issued. That was MVR 17.9 million for 2016 and MVR 20.5 million for 2017.

After a five-year hiatus in 2019, the money for the year 2015, which is MVR 12.5 million was deposited to the councils.

The shops located in north Male’ are rented out for different prices.
