Male' City Council announced that the re-taking of draws for 211 parking slots opened for four-wheelers in Male’ City will be held on Tuesday, 21 December and that all applicants were invited.
As per a statement released by the council, the draw taking will be held at 21:00pm, and that all applicants were welcome to partake in it.
The draw was initially taken on December 5, however, accusations of foreplay and corruption surfaced with the case being submitted to the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) as well.
Following this, Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) released a statement, in which they highlighted that it was odd to take draw without prior announcement to those who took part in it. They added that this takes away its integrity.
Speaking to ‘Sun’ Mayor of Male’ City Dr. Mohamed Muizzu admitted that there were issues with the parking slot draw.
“We have already finalized the decision to retake the draws because we also accept that there were issues.”
He said both the council and ACC had flagged administrative issues. However, Dr. Muizzu noted that ACC did not indicate corruption being a part of it.
“ACC did not mention any corruption, they (ACC) have sent a letter. So they requested to retake the draw after resolving the indicated issues,” said the mayor.
