President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said on Sunday that the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has earned the love, trust and confidence of the Maldivian people.
He made the remark at MTCC’s 41st anniversary function held at the Henveiru Stadium on Sunday night.
In his speech, President Solih said the last two years were MTCC's most active years in its history.
“No doubt, what we are actually celebrating tonight is the success achieved in the last two years. The last two years have been the most active and the most successful years in MTCC's history,” he said.
President Solih said people trusted MTCC its quality of service and timely completion of projects.
“This is the confidence there is in hearts regarding MTCC today. MTCC has earned trust,” he said.
He commended MTCC’s Board of Directors, management, and employees for the success achieved in the last two years.
President Solih said that MTCC is not only a sea transport provider, but also the most important partner in infrastructure development in Maldives, especially in the atolls.
He said that MTCC’s projects were crucial in efforts to eliminate disparity in development.
President Solih said that eliminating disparity in development between the capital and other islands and eliminating the need to travel to Male’ City for essential services was one of his administration’s key policies, and that it was a key focus during the COVID-19 pandemic.
He said that transport was the most important essential service, and noted the mega national high-speed ferry network project awarded to MTCC earlier this year.
President Solih said that MTCC was braced to launch ferry services between islands in Zone I (HA. Atoll, HDh. Atoll, and Sh. Atoll) soon, and noted that it would create new employment opportunities.
