The Auditor General’s Office said today that Rf 133,639 was spent against The State Treasury Regulations from the budget of Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM), for the year 2010.

HRCM’s Audit Report for 2010 published today says that Rf 127,939 spent on the project “Collaborating with Civil Society” by UNDP, and Rf 5,700 spent on the project “Strengthening the Administrative Furnishing of the Commission”, which comes to a total of Rf 133,639, was spent by HRCM against The State Treasury Regulations.

The Audit Report states that, as of 29 September 2011, HRCM has not repaid this money to the State. The Report also says that HRCM’s response with regard to this issue, is that this amount has already been deposited to the state’s income account.

The Audit Report further states that records of money deposited into and withdrawn from the HRCM’s safe, are not up to standard.

According to the Report, the Audit Office recommends regulations be drawn-up in accordance with The State Treasury Regulation, for better book-keeping of money kept in the safe.

The Audit Report says that HRCM’s response with regard to this was, “the regulations regarding money kept in the safe will be revised from next year, and we assure that this problem will not be repeated.”

Several other issues were noted in HRCM’s Audit Report for 2010, with recommendations on how they can be improved.
