Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) has decided to request the Secretariat of the Parliament to hold a special sitting outside of regular sessions.
The decision of the ruling party was announced by its parliamentary group leader, Ali Azim via a tweet on Tuesday night.
His tweet read that MDP has decided to request to hold a special sitting of the parliament outside of the session as permitted by article 45 of the Standing Order of the Parliament. No further details were disclosed by Azim.
Speaking to Sun regarding holding a special sitting outside of regular sessions, Central Maafanu MP Ibrahim Rasheed (Bonde) said that there were important unfinished works when Parliament went to recess after concluding its third session.
“There are important unfinished works that needs to be attended. Have to solve the ACC issues as well,” he had said.
Parliament’s Independent Institutions Committee voted to initiate the process of dismissal all members of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on last Thursday, following a review of the performance of ACC members.
The committee had decided in November that they would recommend the dismissal of members found to be underperforming following their review.
The committee will base the decision to dismiss ACC members on the findings of the performance audit. The audit uncovered the commission had over 16,000 pending cases.
