Family reports injuries on Addu’s latest COVID-19 victim

The family of a COVID-19 patient who died at the Addu Covid Management Facility early Thursday have filed a report with the police over signs of injury found on the deceased’s body. 

A police spokesperson confirmed the report was filed on Thursday morning. 

The police are conducting necessary inquiries in response to the report, said the spokesperson. 

Health Protection Agency (HPA) identified the deceased as an 81-year-old Maldivian female.   

She passed away at 02:13 am on Thursday. 

Her death marks the ninth COVID-19 fatality in Addu – coming after two deaths were recorded in the Addu Covid Management Facility on Tuesday. Five of the COVID-19 deaths in Addu were recorded this October.

Maldives has 87,359 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 173 new cases recorded on Thursday. 85,453 patients have since recovered.    

The country currently has 1,651 active cases. 26 of the patients are hospitalized, while 243 patients have died.
