Maldives’ COVID-19 death toll rises to 242

Health Protection Agency (HPA) announced on Tuesday that a COVID-19 patient admitted at the Addu Covid Management Facility has passed away. 

HPA identified the deceased as a 74-year-old Maldivian male. 

He passed away at 01:10 pm on Tuesday. 

“This is the 242nd COVID-19 death in the Maldives,” confirmed HPA in a tweet. 

This marks the second COVID-19 death within the last 24 hours – the former of which was also recorded in Addu. 

The latest death marks the eighth COVID-19 fatality in Addu. 

Maldives has 87,186 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 115 new cases recorded on Tuesday. 85,378 patients have since recovered.   

The country currently has 1,553 active cases. 20 of the patients are hospitalized.
