JSC requests Supreme Court to determine legitimacy of Hulhumale

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has filed a case to Supreme Court, requesting the Court to determine the legitimacy of the Hulhumale’ Court.

JSC’s lawyer said, at the hearing held at High Court this morning on the case appealed by former President Mohamed Nasheed, that the case was filed to Supreme Court this morning.

He said that the Supreme Court had not yet informed if the case had been accepted.

Nasheed’s legal team, as well as some prominent lawyers in the country, have claimed that Vilingili and Hulhumale’ are included in the administrative division of Male’; and according to the Judicature Act, the courts in Male’ are Supreme Court, High Court and Superior Courts.

The lawyer of Attorney General’s Office said at today’s hearing that if an order is issued to temporarily halt Nasheed’s trial, an order must also be issued to temporarily halt all trials at the Court.
