Passengers fall overboard speedboat; one dead, one missing

A woman has died, and her young son has gone missing, after passengers on a speedboat travelling from Male’ City to V. Fulidhoo fell overboard.

A police spokesperson said authorities received report of a boat taking in water off the coast of Olhuveli resort at 05:06 pm this Saturday.

Police said that three people fell overboard in the incident, two of whom have been found, while the third – a four-year-old boy – remains missing.

The boat, Dream Speed 2, is currently docked in K. Guraidhoo.

An official from Guraidhoo Health Center told Sun that five people were brought in response to the incident, including a 33-year-old woman who was already deceased when brought in.

She is the mother of the missing young boy.

One of the people brought in – a person who sustained a head injury – continues to receive treatment, while the other two have been discharged.
