Chief of Staff at the President’s Office Ali Zahir has stated that he will resign from his post should a legitimate audio be leaked that proves he had influenced judges and former President Yameen Abdul Gayyoom’s trial.

In a press conference held today to respond to the accusations made by various parties stating that Ali Zahir had influenced Yameen’s trial – he stated that he would resign from his post should a legitimate audio evidencing such is leaked – but guaranteed that no such audio would exist.

“Would I resign if a legitimate audio is leaked? 100 percent, yes. But such an audio does not exist. There is nothing to be leaked,” he had said.

During the press conference, Ali Zahir also stressed that he is ready to deny the accusations by taking seven oaths – had an accuser can prove with evidence that he had influenced the trial as per the normal principles followed in such matters.

In addition to this, Ali Zahir also noted that the accusations against him have a political conspiracy behind it – and alleged that the accusations have been made for the sole purpose of influencing Yameen’s trial.

The opposition coalition has made multiple allegations against Ali Zahir in connection to Yameen’s trial – one being that he had influenced the judges preceding the case.
