A traveler from Male’ City who arrived in GDh. Faresmaathoda with a negative PCR result has tested positive for COVID-19, prompting health authorities to place the island under monitoring.
Faresmaathoda Council’s vice president Nasrulla Mohamed told Sun this Sunday that the individual in question arrived in Faresmaathodaa with a negative PCR result a week back.
The individual began showing flu symptoms after arriving in Faresmaathoda, and tested positive for COVID-19.
Nasrulla said that the individual is above 50 years of age, but is not a high-risk patient.
Samples have been taken from approximately 25 people identified as contacts. They are expected to receive their test results on Monday.
Two direct contacts, who also went to the doctor after they developed flu symptoms, have also tested positive.
Faresmaathoda therefore currently has three active cases.
Nasrulla said that local health authorities have initiated random testing in the island, and noted that only a few of the island’s residents have been vaccinated.
This marks the second time for Faresmaathoda to be placed under monitoring since the pandemic began.
