ADh. Dhangethi has been removed from monitoring mechanisms as no resident had tested positive for COVID-19 other than the identified case of a child.
The island was placed under monitoring mechanisms on August 17 subsequent to a six-year-old who consulted at the Dhangethi flu clinic had tested positive.
Speaking to Sun today, Dhangethi Council president Muaviyath Rasheed noted that all samples taken from the direct contacts to the six-year-old had come back negative. This is to include the child’s family and classmates.
Moreover, all random samples taken from the island had also returned negative.
“Samples were taken from 28 persons as direct contacts. None of them had tested positive. Over 100 samples were taken randomly and at the flu clinic – combined. They had all returned negative as well,” he had said.
Muaviyath also added that he believes that the positive result of the six-year-old may not be right.
“We really do not know how the child had gotten infected. We believe there to be an issue with the test results, hence,” he had said.
The six-year-old who had tested positive for COVID-19 from Dhangethi had contracted the disease prior to this as well – six months ago.
