GA. Maamendhoo and A.Dh. Dhangethi have been placed under monitoring in response to COVID-19 cases.

Maamendhoo Council president Ahmed Azeez told Sun on Tuesday evening that the new cases in Maamendhoo have been traced back to a confirmed case in GDh. Thinadhoo.

Azeez said that two classes at the Maamendhoo School have been suspended in response to the case, and that local health authorities are engaged in contact tracing.

“Two classes at the Maamendhoo School have been closed. A two-year-old in UKG tested positive. And then the child’s mother. And then a grade 10 student. All students at the classes are being tested. Two classes have been suspended. That is grade 10, 9 and UKG,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dhangethi Council president Muaviyath Rasheed identified the case in Dhangethi as a six-year-old who was tested at the local flu clinic.

Muaviyath said the child who tested positive last went to Male’ City one month back.

“Contact tracing is in progress. This island was placed under monitoring in quick succession this month. A lot of samples have been sent to the flu clinic. The results remain pending. We are facing some issues getting test results,” he said.
