COVID-19: 130 new cases, 86 from atolls

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Tuesday, announced 152 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 79,419.      

According to HPA, the 130 new cases include; 36 cases from the greater Male’ region, 86 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 8 cases from operational resorts. 

Meanwhile, 133 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 77,506.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 1,679 active cases.      

There are 13 patients in hospitals.      

5,237 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 2,016 from the greater Male' region.    

With the 130 new infections this Tuesday, 845 people have tested positive over the last one-week period.   

August 17: 130 cases 

August 16: 152 cases 

August 15: 137 cases 

August 14: 74 cases 

August 13: 111 cases 

August 12: 125 cases 

August 11: 116 cases 

Maldives has recorded 222 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives has launched an ambitious campaign to fully vaccinate 90 percent of the eligible population in the country by the end of this August. The country began vaccinating children above the age of 12 years this week. 

As of Monday, 354,192 people have received their first dose and 296,498 people have been fully vaccinated.
