President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Monday, met with a young boy who scored A* in the GCE O Level examination.
Rayan Riyaz Abdul Wahid, 10, Wafa, HA. Ihavandhoo was invited to the President’s Office for a meeting with the President on Monday afternoon.
Rayan, a student at Huravee School in Male’, was accompanied by his mother Aishath Yumna and father Mohamed Riyaz.
Others in attendance at the meeting included Education Minister Dr. Aishath Ali, Huravee School’s Principal Abdulla Rasheed and top officials from the President’s Office.
At the meeting, President Solih commended Rayyan on his hard work and presented him with a special gift.
He expressed delight at Rayyan’s achievement, and also commended his parents for their hard work.
When the President asked Rayyan about his interest in Chemistry, Rayan responded that he wants to be a scientist when he grows up. He said that he wants equipment to set up a small lab in his home to conduct experiments.
The President responded that he will provide whatever assistance he can.
Rayan’s parents said that due to the closure of schools due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Rayan prepared for his O Level exams by conducting his own research at home.
They thanked the President for meeting with them, and said it has served as additional encouragement.
