President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has selected five names from the applications received for the post of a member of the Elections Commission and four names from the applications received for the post of the Information Commissioner – and send them today for Parliament’s approval.
The five names sent for approval as a member of the Elections Commission are:
Application for the post of a member of Elections Commission was opened sometime last June, subsequent to the resignation of then-incumbent Elections Commission Chairman Ahmed Shareef. While five names have been sent by the President today – only one will be given approval by the Parliament.
Following the President’s submission of the names – the matter has been forwarded to the Parliament’s Committee on Independent Institutions for deliberation on the names.

The matter also has been forwarded to the Parliament’s Committee on Independent Institutions for deliberation on the names.
Application for the post of the Information Commissioner was opened some time back, subsequent to the resignation of then-incumbent Information Commissioner Chairman Hussain Fiyaz on March 21.
Ahidh, Shiham, and Aleem’s names were sent by the President to the Parliament as his recommendations for the post of the Information Commissioner prior to this as well – however, had not received Parliament’s approval back then. The only new name sent this time around is Azmeela only.
