Ministry of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure has stated that the agreement pertaining to the construction of Thilamale’ bridge will be signed within this month.
The bridge project that would see the connection of Male’ City, Vilimale’, Thilafushi and Gulhifalhu, has been awarded to India’s Afcons Infrastructure Limited.
State Minister of Planning Akram Kamaludeen had told Sun today that discussions were underway with the company – regarding the terms of the agreement.
“Discussions are ongoing. Hopefully, we will be able to sign the agreement within this month,” he had said.
Speaking further, Kamaludeen noted that the bridge project has been significantly delayed due to the difficulties posed by the COVID-19 pandemic – adding that physical work on the project will commence soon after the agreement is signed.
Speaking at a press conference held last week, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih stated that it is unlikely that the bridge will be completed by 2023 – however, that the completed sections will be inaugurated while the project is ongoing.
